Photography Series Part 4

Hello Reader,

Happy New Year! I hope your 2025 is off to a wonderful start. There’s nothing like the magic of winter to inspire some stunning photography, and this season is perfect for capturing frosty details and snowy landscapes—even with your cell phone!

IF you live in the South like me, the wintery look is a little scarce so you have to get creative.

In this newsletter, I’ll share tips to help you take beautiful winter photos that sparkle. Plus, I’ll give you a hint at something exciting I’ve planned for 2025!

❄️ Tips for Capturing Frosty and Winter Scenes

Focus on Frosty Details

  1. Look for patterns in frost-covered windows, leaves, or car windshields.
  2. Use your phone’s tap-to-focus feature to hone in on the intricate icy textures.

Adjust for Snowy Brightness

  1. Snow can trick your camera into underexposing the shot, making it look gray.
  2. Tap on the screen where the snow is brightest, then slide up to increase exposure for a true winter-white effect.

Embrace Warm Light

  1. Early mornings and late afternoons bring soft, golden light that pairs beautifully with cool, frosty scenes.
  2. Use the golden hour glow to enhance your photos’ warmth and contrast.

Keep Your Phone Warm

  1. Cold weather can drain your battery faster, so keep your phone close to your body when not in use.
  2. Use gloves with touchscreen compatibility for ease of shooting outdoors.

Experiment with Shadows and Reflections

  1. Winter landscapes often feature long shadows and reflective ice or snow.
  2. Frame your shots to highlight these elements for a more dynamic composition.

February 24, 2026 Reader Hi friends, In my last newsletter, I shared five unexpected moments from 2025 — and one of them was selling full rights to six of my designs to a home décor company. A few of you replied and asked if I would expand on that decision. So today, I am going to share the experience from how this came about to doing this thing even though I was scared! The opportunity came from attending High Point Market in North Carolina. This show is huge, the reason I wanted to attend...

January 6, 2026 Reader It is 2026 and I am ready to enter into this year with a hopeful attitude! As I look back on this past year, I’m struck by how many beautiful opportunities unfolded that I never could have predicted. They came from showing up, doing the work, and staying open. I hope you do not mind me sharing five things I truly did not see coming in 2025 — and what they reminded me about creative business, faith, and growth. 1.Licensing children’s bedding designs I never imagined...

Hello Reader, I’m thrilled to share a very special project currently unfolding in my studio — "a custom woven fabric", created in collaboration with Kindly Woven, inspired by my client’s roots in beautiful New Orleans. At the center of the design is the beloved fleur-de-lis — but reimagined as a true flower, blooming in an elegant art nouveau style. Rather than staying in its traditional, flat form, this motif now flows with natural movement and grace — just like the spirit of the city it...
